Day 13 / Home - Sanbornton, NH to Golden, CO - Colorado to Maine motorcycle adventure 2014

3674 miles, 13 days, 12 states and 1 Canadian province are the official numbers ridden during my New England motorcycle adventure.  There were countless pretty places along the ride from the farms of the Great Plains and Midwest, to the lakes, mountains, and forests of New England to the seacoast of Maine and Canada.  But the highlight of everything for me was reconnecting with family and friends along the way.

How did I ride from NH to CO in one day?  Well, I flew home and it was amazing because instead of 3 hard days on the motorcycle it was an easy 1/2 day of flying.  While in Vermont, Josh proposed I leave my motorcycle with him and take another adventure next summer together into Canada since he also has a motorcycle.  Then in New Hampshire I told Ian about the idea who also has a motorcycle and he also thought it was a good idea.  So I left my bike with Ian and look forward to riding with Josh and Ian next summer.

Thanks to everyone for making my adventure so memorable and an extra big thanks to the Hagan family for letting me stay several days, helping with oil changes, getting me to the airport and keeping my motorcycle.

Day 12 - Bar Harbor, ME to Sanbornton, NH - Colorado to Maine motorcycle adventure 2014

It was my last day on the motorcycle and couldn't have had a better day.  I spent the morning walking around Bar Harbor and riding through Acadia National Park.

With great reluctance I then headed west knowing it was my last day.  One thing that was on my "To See" list before leaving Colorado was Mt. Washington, so I headed that direction cutting through central Maine.  Near Farmington, ME I saw signs for "Elect Andy Buckland" which caused me to pull over and snap a picture since we share the same last name.

Just as the sun was setting I rolled into Gorham, NH and caught a brief glimpse of Mt. Washington.  From there it was another cold dark ride to Sanbornton where I would be leaving my motorcycle with Mandie and Ian.

Day 11 - Old Harbor, ME to Saint Andrews, New Brunswick to Bar Harbor, ME - Colorado to Maine motorcycle adventure 2014

I woke up to a beautiful sunrise and morning in Old Orchard.  I really wanted to take a morning swim but after dipping my foot in the cold water opted for a nice walk on the beach.

From Old Orchard I continued up the coast with a brief stop in South Portland where I could look across the water to Portland.  Being from landlocked Colorado it was fun to see all the water and ships.

My end goal for the night was Bar Harbor, ME where I had yet another high school friend but I ambitions of making it to Canada if possible.  So continued north to Bangor and there I decided cut east and crossed into Canada in Calias, ME.  Since I was running short on time I only made it St. Andrews, New Brunswick where I had a nice dinner just across the bay from Maine.

The ride from St. Andrews to Bar Harbor was a long 3 hours with the last half being in the dark but I eventually made it.  In Bar Harbor I met Autumn who I went to high school with and was on the cross country and track teams with.

Day 10 - Sanbornton, NH to Old Harbor, ME. - Colorado to Maine motorcycle adventure 2014

I spent the morning in New Hampshire getting the oil changed and headlight fixed on the motorcycle.  Ian was kind enough to take the day off work and hang out so we got breakfast, went to the history museum and then got lunch.

Once the motorcycle was ready I headed west for Maine.  I first cut down to Portsmouth, NH which was pretty then worked my way up the Maine coast with a brief stop in Kennebunkport for the sunset.  I really wanted to camp out but I couldn't find anywhere worth the effort so I spent the night in Old Orchard, ME.

Day 8 - Day off in Sanbornton, NH. - Colorado to Maine motorcycle adventure 2014

After a week on the motorcycle it felt good to have a day off.  I hung out with Hagan family and they gave me a great tour of their area.  We had a nice breakfast, checked out the lakes, stopped at local ski area and visited some other friends.  It really is a beautiful place and somewhere I want to visit again soon.

Day 7 - Woodbury, VT to Sanbornton, NH. - Colorado to Maine motorcycle adventure 2014

It was 45 degrees when we woke up at Josh's house which
is a little on the cold side for a motorcycle ride.  So we relaxed and waited for things to warm up.
It never did warm up much though so we eventually geared up for a short dirt road excursion
around his home.  After countless miles of pavement it felt great to hit the dirt and backwoods
of Vermont.
